When it comes to the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community in Gatlinburg, we’ve visited Alewine Pottery more than anyone else. We like their work so much, we use it in our homes and even display it in our properties. A visit to Alewine will give you the opportunity to watch their potters work, time to browse their vast selection of kitchen and decorative items, and an opportunity to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area.

My personal favorite Alewine items are their mugs. If you like a uniform look, you can purchase them in sets from the collections inside the store. If you’re like me and like to find “the one,” I recommend taking a walk along the porch to find the mug that calls your name. I have a bevy of mismatched Alewine mugs in my cabinet, and I love them all. They keep my coffee nice and warm much longer than an average mug. They clean up well, and they look pretty.

While mugs are the obvious choice, Alewine has lots to offer in kitchenwares. The soup mugs were a game changer for soup night for me. They’re perfect for cozying up on a cold winter day and help make sure I don’t spill my soup all over the couch (where I inevitably eat the soup on said cold winter day). The salsa bowls are perfect for keeping the queso warm and the guac cold while watching football. The utensil holder helps make sure I don’t knock the entire thing over while pulling out just the right spatula for whatever I might be cooking. It’s heavy enough to keep everything upright, no matter how big a rush I might be in.

Alewine also makes plenty of decorative items, as well. Vases, candleholders that turn into useable mugs after the candle burns down, luminaries, lamps, and decorative bowls are just some of the options you’ll find there. I personally love the mini vases - they’re perfect for displaying fresh cut wildflowers.

The staff are always very friendly without hovering, and they can answer any question you ask (even sometimes about things that have nothing to do Alewine!). You can pick up what you want while you’re there, or you can place an order and they’ll ship it to you. If you’re in the market for some beautiful pottery or just a souvenir mug - Alewine is the place to get it!
